Spending the night at the oldest operating hotel in Austin, Texas

This past weekend I stayed at the oldest operating hotel in Austin, Texas: The Driskill Hotel.  This hotel which was originally built in 1886 is conveniently located in 604 Brazos Street, and it is said to be one of the most haunted hotels in the United States. The 4th floor is supposed to be the home of many ghosts, including the ghost of Colonel Jesse Driskill, the original constructor and owner. Luckily I stayed in room 532.

President Lyndon Johnson met his wife for their fist date at the Driskill Hotel in 1934.

This is what my room, 532, looked like. Antique but comfortable bed.

When the hotel opened in December 1886, a night at the Driskill would cost you anywhere from $2.50 to $5 a night. Very expensive compared to what other hotels were charging per night: 50cents.

Interesting taste and choice for night tables.

Impressed by the size of the showers, considering this hotel was originally built in 1886.

Although the Driskill has two restaurants (one of them was used in the movie Miss Congeniality) wasn’t impressed by the food. My favorite meal: egg white omelet with goat cheese served in bed. 🙂
