Escape to Xochitepec, Mexico

This past weekend I traveled back to Mexico and visited Xochitepec for the first time. An hour away from Mexico City and 20 minutes from Cuernavaca, this magical town has many “haciendas”- most of them are now beautiful colonial hotels. I spent two nights at Hacienda San Antonio El Puente, one of the most exclusive and private properties in the area, perfect for a weekend getaway.

Hacienda San Antonio Hotel El Puente was a sugar mill in the 18th century and later it became a producer of cane alcohol. In 2005, it was acquired by the current owners, who with a great vision were able to restore it making it one of the best hotels in the area.

It has seven lush gardens with colonial architecture.

Most of the facade and brick walls are covered with plants.

The warm climate in Xochitepec allows wild flowers to grow all year long.

One of my favorite gardens. In it you find signs that read “passion”, “respect”, “good humor” and “simplicity”.

All 131 rooms are uniquely decorated, spacious and have views to the gardens.

There are four types of rooms, all varying in size and price.

In the hotel, you find this beautiful chapel with an image of Virgen de Guadalupe.

Tunnels and long hallways connect the different buildings in the hotel.

Fountains are found all over the property. This one is located in the main lobby area.
